Coco Models Examines The Costume Institute Benefit 2010
This year’s Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute benefit was held on Monday night in New York. It was hosted by Oprah Winfrey and Vogue editor -in-chief Anna Wintour. The event celebrated the opening of, “American Women: Fashioning a National Identity”, an exhibition new to the museum.
This exhibition explores developing perceptions of the modern American women and the way they are seen today. It focuses on how the American woman’s style began to mirror her social, political, and sexual lifestyle. The exhibition depicted women at the turn of the 20th century with tiny shoulders and waists, and not very tall. They all wore pale, almost silvery colours.
The fashion for this event was very unpredictable with the exhibition looking at styles between 1890 and 1940s. The dress code for the exhibition is usually dictated by the theme. With everyone having their own definition of American style anything could have been worn. Most of the women in attendance chose to dress elegantly. Most outfits consisted of extravagant dresses, diamond jewelry, trains, and small bodices. All the stars and models that arrived where dressed in American or European labels. Most arrived with the designer who dressed them.

Coco Models Explains Why Peter Lindbergh Returned To Vogue
Peter Lindbergh, fashion photographer, has decided to make a move back to Vogue after Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington spoke to him. After the two had asked him back he said “It was like you are the black sheep in the family, and your older brother asks you to come home.” He left Vogue in 1992 and has not had his pictures published in the magazine. Since then he has been shooting for Harper's Bazaar. The 18 year hiatus was caused by Alexander Lieberman and Grace Mirabella at Vogue. Both of them did not like his photography style specifically stating about his pictures of models on the beach, “They told me we can’t handle the women you’re photographing."
Lindbergh has said that, “fashion photography is going in the wrong direction, with the overdone hair and make-up”. He believes that young is overdone and would like to bring the more natural, less retouched models back to the pages of Vogue. Bringing back a little life to fashion photography might not be such a bad idea.

Coco Models Takes A Look At The New Generation Of Supermodels ...
Australian born fashion model Catherine McNeil was discovered at the age of 14 after winning a competition hosted by Australian Teen mag “Girlfriend”. When featured on the cover of the September 2007 edition of French Vogue, she was labelled one of “British Vogue's Head Girls and a model to watch for in the upcoming season”. Since then she’s been featured in ads for Louis Vuitton and has walked the runway for Bottega Veneta and Missoni.
Hailed “the fashion industry’s next great supermodel”, English model Agyness Deyn’s edgy platinum blonde look sets her apart from the rest. She has appeared in ads for Burberry, Giorgio Armani and Shiseido. In addition to her long list of runway credits, she is also an actress and singer.
In 2005 Victoria’s Secret Angel Doutzen Kroes was named model of the year on vogue.com. The Dutch model also ranks 5th in Forbes May issue on the list of the Worlds 15 top earning supermodels. Appearing in campaigns for Escada and Dolce and Gabbana to name a few, Kroes is well on her way to the top.
Toronto’s own Coco Rocha is a rising star. Since being discovered in 2002, she has been the face of major industry campaigns for Chanel, Balenciaga and Yves St. Laurent. Along with gracing the covers of numerous magazine covers she has walked the runway for Diane von Furstenberg, Zac Posen and John Galliano.
Since her debut runway walk in 2006, Chanel Iman has been featured in editorial spreads for 6 different editions of Vogue around the world. Of South Korean and African- American parentage she was born in Atlanta, Georgia. In the future she has aspirations to design her own clothing line. She also models with Victoria’s Secret for their “Nakeds” line.
Another one of our own, Canadian model Jessica Stam, appeared in the May 2007 publication of Vogue featuring the “new crop” of supermodels. Like many of our other new comers she has done work for Victoria’s Secret. In the spring of 2006 she walked 64 shows for Fashion Week in New York, Milan and Paris. In March of this year she helped launch the first edition of Vogue Turkey as the cover girl.

Coco Models Goes Looking For The Runaways
Last month marked the New York premiere of Floria Sigismondi's The Runaways which cast actresses Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning in the roles of real life Runaways Joan Jett and Cherie Currie. Joan Jett is the executive producer of this project which is about the life of their all girls punk band. The film takes place in 1975 when The Runaways were the only female punk band on the L.A scene. The group broke up soon after their first hit Cherry Bomb.
Both Kristen Stewart, as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning, as lead singer Cherie Currie, sing in the biopic. They have their own version of the song Cherry Bomb which is climbing the charts. This is also the most adult role that Dakota Fanning has ever played. In the film she can be seen snorting drugs, making out with Kristen Stewart and dancing around in bikini bottoms and leather pants. Both her movie roles and fashion sense are growing up. She wore a hand-embroidered blush Elie Saab dress with Brian Atwood heels to the premiere which was perfectly paired with Kristen Stewart's Emilio Pucci sequined mini dress.
The film was given a limited release on March 19th and was released to theatres everywhere on April 9th.

Coco Models Take A Look At Fashion History
Michelle Obama has donated her inaugural gown to the Smithsonian National Museum of History in Washington D.C. The dress was designed by fashion newcomer Jason Wu who has just showed his Irving Penn inspired Fall 2010 collection in New York Fashion Week. Michelle Obama has said that, "This gown is a masterpiece. It is simple, it's elegant, and it comes from this brilliant mind." What an amazing honour for the young fashion designer to have a piece in such a historical museum before the age of 28. The dress will be part of a showcase at the museum of eleven inaugural dresses. The collection of dresses began with Mamie Eisenhower, who became first lady in the 1950s. Even though every first lady since 1912 has donated something to the Smithsonian, not all of them could part with their inaugural dress.

HOLLYWOOD PROM
It was a historical night for The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow who won best director, and became the first women ever to hold that distinction. The Hurt Locker also beat out Avatar and took home best picture. Other winners of the evening were Sandra Bullock for Best Actress, Jeff Bridges for Best Actor, Christopher Waltz for Best Supporting Actor and Mo'nique for best Supporting Actress.
One of the best quotes from the Annual Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, "It's like Hollywood prom" said by Precious star Gabourey Sibide. Like any prom the Oscars are the night for Hollywood style. The night was filled with many great dresses and tuxes as most stars played it safe, or used a stylist.
My top five picks for this years red carpet is Cameron Diaz, who stunned us all in a gold Oscar de la Renta gown, Meryl Streep looked glamorous in a white Chris March dress, Carey Mulligan in a black Prada, Rachel McAdams in a flowing Elie Saab dress and Kate Winslet in Yves St. Laurent.
The very respectable runners- up of the night had to be Tina Fey, in Michael Kors, Anna Kendrick, in Elie Saab Haute Couture, Demi Moore, in Atelier Versace , and Amanda Seyfried and Jennifer Lopez, both in Armani Privé.
One of the most questionable fashion decisions of the evening was the Marchesa dress worn by Vera Farmiga. It looked like she had been swallowed by pink ruffles. Charlize Theron wore a light purple dress with awkward rosebud swirls over the bust by Christian Dior that was designed uniquely for her. Zoe Saldana who is usually a red carpet superstar wore a Givenchy gown that did not work the red carpet or the runway.

For the past few years, one of the main issues affecting the global economy has been our terrible economy. People losing their jobs have resulted in major cut backs, the average person doesn’t have as much funds to purchase a high priced piece of clothing anymore. The 12th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards
Many stars were in attendances at the 12th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards which took place at the Beverly Hills Hotel last. Both Anna Kendrick and Anna Paquin looked stunning in two completely different dresses. Anna Kendrick wore an Elie Saab white futuristic gown that was beautifully embroidered while Ana Paquin took a risk by wearing Marios Schwab Fall 2009 printed mini dress. Kristen Bell, Minka Kelly, and Jayma Mays were also in attendance.
Emily Blunt, who plays Queen Victoria in The Young Victoria, won Swarovski Award for her achievements in the film this week along with the costume designer for the film, Sandy Powell, who took home the award for best costume in a period film. When asked by PEOPLE MAGAZINE about the incredible costumes she had to wear she told them, “When you’re playing a character like Queen Victoria it helps to have a visionary like Sandy Powell, She corset-ed me within an inch of my life, Thank god I did learn to work the corset." Sandy Powell the costume designer justified the fit of Blunts costumes by saying, ‘The shape needs to be right," where as Emily Blunt replied “Well I can’t breathe, Sandy.’ And she said, ‘I don’t care.’"
